About

Detroit-based guitarist and composer Greg Allen Comonal has established himself as one of the up-and-coming jazz musicians on the scene. He is an active performer and educator whose dedication to jazz music has led to lucrative performance opportunities in the Midwest and Internationally, including venues such as The Jazz Showcase, Arts + Literature Laboratory, Zal Gaz Grotto Club, Phog LoungeEpiphany Center for the Arts, Fitzgerald's Sidebar, Cliff Bells, and festivals such as The Michigan Jazz Festival, Tottori JAZZ, Takatsuki Jazz Street, South Haven Jazz Festival, and The Detroit Jazz Festival.

Born in Chicago and raised in the southwest suburbs, Greg began his music education with piano lessons, church choirs, and musical theatre before discovering guitar in middle-school. In 2019, he moved to DeKalb, IL to study at Northern Illinois University’s School of Music, where he was mentored by world-renowned jazz guitarist Bobby Broom and internationally acclaimed classical guitarist Dr. An Tran, as well as Chicago guitar contemporaries Kyle Asche and Dave Miller.

In May 2025, Comonal was selected as the Gretchen C. Valade Graduate Assistantship in Jazz at Wayne State University, where he is currently pursuing his M.M. in Jazz Performance under the guidance of Christopher Collins (President/Artistic Director of the Detroit Jazz Festival).
